“Jesus replied, ‘You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.’”—John 13:7

Sometimes we just know. We just know that we know that we know why Jesus is calling us to do something, and it’s amazing. But there are other times we feel Someone pulling us in a direction we don’t understand. Sometimes it really doesn’t make sense. And sometimes we don’t want to do it.

If you feel the Holy Spirit guiding you or pulling on you, stop and listen. Don’t listen to your mind though, just to what the Spirit is telling you. If it doesn’t make sense, that doesn’t mean it’s not good. We won’t always understand how God is leading us or why, but we can always have faith that He is leading us. Follow His voice.

Don’t be afraid you’ll make the wrong decision. Simply listen and go where He’s telling you to go. Trying to think it out yourself often makes everything more jumbled. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:9) We need to listen with our spirit, not reason with our logic. Trust Him; He is good.

You will understand one day. Sometimes we understand immediately after doing it. Sometimes it’s a little while later or even years and years in the future. Sometimes we won’t know until God shows us in heaven. But trust God’s plan. “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” (Jeremiah 29:11) Even if it’s hard, have faith and follow the Shepherd. (John 10:3-5)
